Ross Mills CMDR, RAN DNOEH

Ross graduated in medicine from Otago University (NZ) in 1982. In 1992 he obtained fellowships in General Practice and Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and immigrated to Australia.

From then up until 2009 he worked as an Occupational Physician, specialising in vocational rehabilitation within compensable systems. This included working for a period as a Senior Staff Specialist for the then Illawarra Area Health Service (NSW) and subsequently in private clinical and medico-legal practice in NSW.

His areas of interest include Compensable Medicine, Human Factors, Aviation Medicine and Health Informatics. Ross' research thesis was on predicting failure to return to work after sustaining an injury in a compensable environment.

Ross' military career started in the full-time RNZAF in 1987. In 1992 he transferred to the reserve forces, serving in the Australian Army Reserve from 1995 to 2009 (including Operation Gold and Operation Tanager). In 2009 Ross transferred to the full-time RAN and is currently posted to Canberra as Director Navy Occupational and Environmental Medicine.

Ross brings to AMMA his experience as Past President of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and a keen desire to further the aims of AMMA.
